Evelyn May McAlpin, a longtime Montesano resident passed away on Wednesday, October 17, 2012, in Montesano. She was 93. Evelyn was born May 21, 1919, in Montesano to Worthy E. and Elizabeth Marie (Flickiger) Frazier. Evelyn attended school in Boisfurt, Washington, where she grew up. She also lived in Centralia, Curtis, Camp Grisdale, Yakima and Elma. She worked as a flunkie (waitress) at the cookhouse at Camp Grisdale in the 1950’s and at Weyerhaeuser’s Camp McDonald in Klaber, Washington in the 1940’s and later as a journeyman clerk at Safeway in Montesano.
She married Claude Albert McAlpin in 1943. He passed away in 1994. Evelyn was a member of the Montesano VFW Women’s Auxiliary and the Children’s Orthopedic Guild. She enjoyed sewing, making many wardrobes for her granddaughters Barbie’s and teaching the girls to sew. Evelyn also liked crafts, canning, traveling and doing crossword puzzles. She especially enjoyed meeting with the “Grisdale Bunch” in recent years for their monthly luncheons. She loved her family.
Evelyn is survived by her children, Patricia JoAnn Cokeley of Montesano, Dennis Lee “Butch” (Barbara) McAlpin of Montesano; stepson, Donald McAlpin of Kennewick; seven grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. She is also survived by her sister, Arlene Tobin of Centralia; and two brothers, Gene Frazier of Chehalis and George Frazier of Burien. Evelyn is preceded in death by her parents, Worthy and Elizabeth; her husband, Claude; and seven Frazier brothers, Hugh, Glenn, Robert, Earl, Worthy, Fred and Ralph.
Private interment will be at Claquato Cemetery in Chehalis.
