With his loving family at his side during his brief stay at Good Samaritan Hospital in Puyallup, Washington, Frederick “Fred” Simpson Preston, age 84, went peacefully to Heaven on December 21, 2012.
Fred married Jean Pattison on March 19, 1963. Together they raised a family, enjoyed gardening, camping trips in their Winnebago, traveling, and playing cards with friends. Along with serving two years in the U.S. Army, Fred held a variety of jobs; his first, delivering ice for The Ice Palace. Later, he worked for Aberdeen Plywood before hiring on as a pipefitter for Weyerhaeuser at their Cosmopolis Pulp Mill, retiring after thirty years. Fred is a past member of the Aberdeen Elks Club and the Cosmopolis Lions Club. While Fred dreamed of traveling to England, he was unable to convince his wife to accompany him so he enjoyed the adventure with a tour group instead. He loved his family and was heartbroken with the passing of his dear Jean in 2008. His brother, William precedes him in death also.
Fred’s legacy lives on in his daughters, Robin Johns of West Linn, Ore. and Julie Connolly (Dan), Edgewood of Wash.; four grandchildren, Caitlyn Swarm (Bryan), Tanner Johns, Mackenzie and Keely Connolly; and his great-grandson, Jaxson Swarm.
To celebrate Fred’s love of pets, his family asks that you donate to the PAWS organization, P.O. Box 451, Aberdeen, WA 98520.
Fred and Jean Preston will be reunited at a private graveside service in Portland, Ore.
