Garnette O. Giberson

Garnette O. Giberson, a 73 year Harbor resident, 37 years in the Wynooche Valley, died on Monday, August 13, 2012, at Grays Harbor Community Hospital in Aberdeen. Garnette was born July 30, 1928, in Veblen, South Dakota to Lars and Blanche (Noble) Otterby. She grew up in Aberdeen and graduated from Weatherwax High School in 1947.

She married Allen W. Giberson on June 23, 1951, in Aberdeen. They were married almost 59 years before Allen’s passing. Before she got married, Garnette worked at the Olympic Bakery and Woolworths in Aberdeen. She later owned two craft shops with her daughter, “Giberson’s Crafts & Supplies” and “Gee Gee’s Crafts”. Garnette was a member of the Wynooche Valley Grange, the Wynooche Homemakers and the Christian Science Church. As an artist, she painted on Fungi called “Konks”, also on Sawblades. She grew flowers and sold them in the Wynooche Valley. She played the piano and organ by ear. Garnette loved her dogs. She left behind her Pekingese, “Precious” and her cat, “Sabrina”.

Garnette is survived by her children, Maryalyn Martin (Tom) of Montesano, Wayne B. Giberson, also of Montesano and her Foster Daughter, Esther Jacobson (Rich). She is also survived by nephews, Lonny and Kerry Otterby; niece, Marilyn McDowell; and two grandsons, Wayne A. and Brad Giberson. She is preceded in death by her husband, Allen Giberson in 2010; brother, Donald Otterby; and sister, Fay Thovson.

The family would like to extend their appreciation to her caregivers, Tammy, Peggy, Pat, Teri, Margaret, Donna and all of the rest. They would also like to thank Montesano Health and Rehab, Pacific Care Center and the Montesano Fire Department. There will be no funeral services, per Garnette’s request.
