George Winings, a 71 year Grays Harbor resident, passed away on Tuesday, January 8, 2013, at home in McCleary. He was 86. George was born October 24, 1926, in Victor, Montana to Henry and Mary Irene (Miller) Winings. He grew up and attended school in Victor and in Elma. George joined the U.S. Army and served as an ambulance driver from 1946-1949. He married Marjorie Bird Einert in McCleary on August 19, 1949. Marjorie passed away on March 2, 2009.
George was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the Local 2761 WCIW He enjoyed going out to coffee several times a day with his friends. He also enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping and cutting wood. He is survived by his son, Jim (Theresa) Winings of Shelton; grandson, Michael Birindelli Jr. of Everett; and granddaughter, Erin (Jim) Mielitz of Centralia. George is also survived by two sisters, Helen Butcher of Tumwater and Sharon Fielder of Edmonds; and numerous step grandchildren and nieces and nephews.
In addition to his wife, Marjorie; George is preceded in death by his parents; his son, Michael Birindelli Sr.; and his sisters, Phyllis Kratcha and Sylvia Montoure.
Funeral services will begin at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, January 12, 2013, at Whiteside Family Mortuary in Elma followed by interment at McCleary Cemetery.
