Harry Bertelsen, 79, a Port Orchard, Washington resident and former Washington State Commandant for the Marine Corp League, died peacefully at his home on April 16, 2013.
Harry was born on November 16, 1933, in Aberdeen, Washington, where he grew up. He was a first generation American born to Norwegian Immigrants Thorleif and Mary Bertelsen.
Harry served in the U.S. Marine Corp during the Korean War and was honorably discharged on April 9, 1960.
Harry made his career as a custom home builder.
Harry married his true love, Carol Bertelsen on November 11, 1956, in Montesano, Wash. On May 21, 2010, Carol passed away.
Harry is survived by his daughters, Terri Squires and Tani Zarelli; grandchildren, Brynn Day, Karrie Clarke, Ashley Zarelli, Tristan Fujita and Tabatha DiRubio; 2 great-grandchildren, Ezra Clarke and Gabriella Zarelli and two that are on the way. He is also survived by his beloved dog, Cocoa. He was preceded in death by a twin brother, Bjarne Bertelsen.
There will be a graveside service with Military Honors for Harry at 1:00 p.m. on Monday, April 22, 2013, in Fern Hill Cemetery, in Aberdeen, Wash.
