JD Messer, 84, passed away at his home in Hoquiam on Sunday, August 12, 2012. JD was one of 17 children; he was born July 15, 1928, in Barkers Creek, North Carolina to James and Flonnie (Gunter) Messer.
On December 24, 1948, JD married Mary A. Freeman in South Carolina. She survives him at the family home.
JD worked as a timber faller until the age of 71, the last 20 years of his career was spent at Mayr Brothers of Hoquiam. He had many hobbies which included bowling, hunting and fly fishing.
JD is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Mary; a daughter, Joanie Ehly of Hoquiam; a son, Curtis (Charm) Messer of Aberdeen; nine siblings, Gladys, Myrtle, Mary Sue, Fannie, Carline, Annie and Harrison all of North Carolina, Bonnie and Robert of Yakima; four grandchildren, Cheri (Kyle), Curtis Jr. (Crystal), James (CJ) and Gary of Aberdeen; one great-granddaughter, Kierra. He was preceded in death by seven siblings, Arthur, Kelly, John, Billie, Ellen, Leslie and Linda and grandson Michael Messer.
Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. on Thursday, August 16th in the chapel at Harrison Family Mortuary located at 311 W. Market Street in Aberdeen. A graveside service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, August 17th at McCleary Cemetery. A potluck style celebration of his life will follow at 5:00 p.m. at Rainier Lanes, located at 415 W. Heron in Aberdeen.
