Jerry Gene Mason, age 81, a lifetime Hoquiam resident, died on December 1, 2012, at his home in Hoquiam. Mr. Mason was born on June 4, 1931, in Hoquiam to Earl Guy and Lucille Lydia (Corbett) Mason. He graduated from Hoquiam High School in 1949 where he participated in football, track, basketball and baseball.
He served in the U.S. Army from 1950 to 1953, with tours in Korea, Japan, Okinawa and Germany.
After his discharge, he returned to the Harbor where he worked for Grays Harbor Veneer from 1953 to 1954, Harbor Plywood from 1954 to 1955, Hoquiam Fire Department from 1955 to 1972, Evergreen Sales from 1972 to 1977 and as a custodian for the Aberdeen School District (Stevens Elementary) from 1977 until his retirement in 1993.
He and Irene Stacie were married on January 26, 1978. She died in 1998.
Surviving relatives include a son, Earl Mason of Los Angeles. California; step-daughter, Colleen Dell (Larry) of Central Park; one brother, Dick Mason of Sisters, Oregon; four grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. In addition to his wife, Jerry was preceded in death by a step-son, James Stacie; and sisters, Shirley Olson and Donna Cain.
There will be a private urn committal at Hoquiam’s Sunset Memorial Park.
