JoAnn Mandich, 68 years of age and a lifetime Harborite, died on Tuesday, January 29, 2013, at Providence Saint Peter Hospital in Olympia, Washington. JoAnn was born on May 24, 1944, in Aberdeen, Washington to Steve and Zorka (Franich) Manenica.
She was raised and attended school in Aberdeen to include Saint Mary Catholic School, Saint Mary Academy in Winlock for a year and then Weatherwax High School where she graduated in 1962.
On April 4, 1964, JoAnn Manenica was married to her high school sweetheart, Vic Mandich at the Saint Mary Catholic Church in Aberdeen. Following their marriage the couple made their home in Hoquiam where she had since resided.
Before her kids were born she enjoyed working at Wiitamaki Jewelry and J.C. Penney, both in Aberdeen and O’Conners in Hoquiam. She was then a stay-at-home mom until her children were much older. JoAnn then became a para educator with the Hoquiam School District and retired from there in 2007 after 29 years of service.
She looked forward to summer travels with her husband aboard their “Gill Yacht”. They took adventures in the waters of the Pacific Northwest, the San Juan Islands and Canada. She also enjoyed baking, sewing, gardening, their two dogs and spending time with her children and grandchildren.
JoAnn Mandich is survived by her husband, Vic Mandich of the family home in Hoquiam; her son, Vic Mandich (Kyla) of Hoquiam; her daughter, Tammy Lund (Mike) of Hoquiam; her sister, Diane Pinnick (Stan) of Hoquiam; three grandchildren, Max, Alex and Kali and many relatives.
The family welcomes you to a celebration of her life at 3:30 pm, Friday, February 1, 2013, at the Hoquiam High School Student Center, 501 West Emerson Avenue.
Arrangements are by the Coleman Mortuary, 422 - 5th Street in Hoquiam.
