John Leslie Miller passed away peacefully on Friday, March 15, 2013. After a vigorous and happy life John suffered from the advanced stages of Parkinson’s for the last few years and spent the last seven years with wife, Dona, at the Panorama City retirement community in Lacey, Washington.
A celebration of John’s life will be held at Capital Vision Christian, 1775 Yew Ave NE, Olympia WA beginning at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 30, 2013, with a potluck dinner to follow. The celebration will be led by John and Dona’s pastor Bruce Sanders.
John was born August 15, 1930, in Jedburg, Missouri to John and Izora Miller. John grew up in Elma and attended Elma High School before volunteering for the Navy where he served on the U.S.S. Agawam during the Korean War. John married Dona (Jorgensen) on April 4, 1953. and lived happily together for just two weeks shy of 60 years. John and Dona’s children include Richard (deceased 2004, wife Evonne), Bill (Lisa), Ted (Kathy) and Becky (Brian) Tole. John was also blessed with 13 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
John is survived by his brother, David and sisters, MaryAlice LeVering, Elizabeth Dennis, Nancy Jones and Martha Vest. John’s sister, Freda (Bing) Johnson and brothers, Bill and John preceded him in death.
John was a loving husband and father and a log truck driver (for many years with John Miller stenciled on the door of his own truck) operating out of the family home north of Hoquiam. He loved the outdoors, Jesus, and good cooking. He was partial to marching bands, “You Are My Sunshine” and Johnny Cash. John was affectionately known as “Farmer John” for his blue bib overalls and his humble, gregarious nature.
