Johnny Lorre Stauffer, Sr., 81, retired Army Staff Sargent and former Volunteer Deputy Sheriff for the Grays Harbor Fire District #10 in Wishkah Valley, died November 15, 2012, at his home in Aberdeen.
Johnny was born on February 21, 1931, in Dubois, Nebraska, to Johnny L. and Nora Belle (Johnson) Shauffer. He graduated from Burn High School in Kansas in 1950. He then joined the US Army and for the next 20+ years was stationed in Japan, Korea, New Mexico, Virginia, Kansas, Guatemala, and Germany. He was Honorably Discharged in 1970, and moved to Grays Harbor.
On November 21, 1954, Johnny married Vivian Louise Goodenough in the Wishkah. She died on June 6, 2009.
Johnny was a member of the American Legion and liked to go camping, do woodworking and hand crafts.
Johnny is survived by two sons, Johnny Jr. of Aberdeen and Delbert and wife, Jane Mitchell of Eureka, Calif.; a daughter, Pam and husband, James Presswood of Aberdeen; a brother, John Robert Stauffer of Blue Rapids, Kansas; and four sisters, Patricia Jean Badberg, Emma Lou Mayer and Pearl Mayer all of Humboldt, Neb., and RuthAnn Carrier of Vista, Calif.; a half-sister, Marilyn Irene Planner of Newton, Iowa; three grandchildren, Kathryn, Becky and Norma Presswood; three great-grandchildren; and one step-grandson Edward. A son, William Stauffer; and three brothers, Carl William, Henry Edward, Stanley preceded Johnny in death.
There will be a time of visitation and viewing for Johnny on Monday, November 26, 2012, form 1-8 PM, in Fern Hill Funeral Home in Aberdeen. A graveside service will take place on Tuesday, November 27, 2012, at 1 PM, in St. John’s Cemetery, Wishkah Valley. A reception will follow in at Wishkah Valley Community Church.
