Kathleen Joanne Smith, age 73, a resident of Elma, Washington died on Thursday, September 6, 2012, at Mark Reed Hospital in McCleary. Kathleen was born on January 17, 1939, in Sharon, Pennsylvania, to John J. and Minnie Mae (Baker) Spisak. She graduated from high school in Lancaster, Calif., at the age of 18. Kathleen Joanne was married to Floyd G. Smith on November 28, 1957. The couple lived in North Hollywood, Calif., until moving to Satsop, Wash., in 1972. Floyd Smith died in 1993.
Kathleen Smith had worked as a registered nurse at the Aberdeen St. Joseph Hospital, in California hospitals and at the Beehive Retirement Center in McCleary. She served as the secretary - treasurer for the Matlock Fire Department and secretary - treasurer for River Haven Housing Commission in Mason County. For some four years she had been a foster parent.
Surviving relatives include three sons, Steven Smith, William Smith and Kenneth Smith all of Elma; a daughter, Cheryl Smith of Elma; one brother, John Spisak of Elma; four sisters, Norma Jean Kettelkamp of of Quartz Hill, Calif., Patricia Carson of Atlanta, Ga., Bonnie Ferguson of Lancaster, Calif., and Connie Rushing of Las Vegas, Nev.; ten grandchildren; and nine great grandchildren.
At her request, there will be no formal service. Cremation arrangements are by the Coleman Mortuary, 422 – 5th Street in Hoquiam.
