Keith V. McDonald passed on at St. Peter’s Hospital, surrounded by his family and friends on October 21, 2012. He was born in South Bend, Washington, on November 22, 1936, to R.D. & Frieda (Haase) McDonald. He graduated from Willapa Valley High School in 1955, and later attended the University of Washington.
He was devoted to his wife, the former Carol Johnson, for 56 years. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, trapping, and spending time with his friends. He was a lifelong member of the Willapa Harbor Lions Club and an honorary member of the Willapa River Lions Club. He held many Lions Club offices throughout his life, including District Governor. He received many awards throughout his years in Lions Club, and was Lion of the Year multiple times. He also received the highest award given to a Lion, the Melvin Jones Fellow Award. Keith also donated his corneas to the Lion’s Eye Bank after his passing.
He was a longtime member of the Elks. In his later years, he volunteered for HAVA, live-trapping feral cats so they could have better lives. He was a great animal lover.
He is survived by his wife; his sons, Doug (Jan) of Raymond, Jeff of Federal Way, and David of Pennsylvania; his brother John, (Betty) of Aberdeen; his grandsons, Matthew (Briana) of Portland, Ore. and Daniel (Kristin) of Ridgefield, Wash.; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Roger; twin brother, Kenneth and brother, Dick.
Private graveside services will be held. All friends and family are invited to the Raymond Elks at 1:00 p.m. on Monday, October 29, 2012.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to HAVA, Lions Eye Bank, Willapa Harbor Helping Hands or the Raymond Ambulance Fund. Arrangements are in care of Stoller’s Mortuary in Raymond.
