Lifelong Aberdeen resident James “Larry” Sherman Sr., 69, passed away on Monday, July 1, 2013, at Providence St. Peter Hospital in Olympia, Washington. Larry was born December 16, 1943, in Aberdeen, Washington to James and Neva (Ross) Sherman. He graduated from Aberdeen High School in 1963.
On November 29, 1969, Larry married the love of his life Joyce Plato at Calvary Lutheran Church in Aberdeen. She survives him at the family home in Central Park.
Larry worked for ITT Rayonier for 30 years, retiring in 1992. He then worked for Comcast for 16 years and retired in 2010.
He loved playing golf and enjoyed watching sports on TV, especially the Mariners and Seahawks. He also liked to go for motorcycle rides and was a jack of all trades.
In addition to his loving wife, Joyce, he is survived by a son, J. Larry Sherman Jr. of Pacifica, Calif.; daughter, Stephanie Harriman of Aberdeen; brother, Grant (Betty) Sherman of Puyallup; three sisters, Norma Lavender of Humptulips; Elsie Hensley of Central Park and Margaret Lutzvick of Olympia; and his grandson, Eli Harriman of Aberdeen. Larry was preceded in death by his parents.
A graveside service will take place at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, July 12, 2013, at Fern Hill Cemetery followed by a reception in the parish hall at Calvary Lutheran Church in Aberdeen.
