Lawrence R. Spencer, 70, passed away on March 13, 2013, at his home in Central Park. Larry was born on March 31, 1942, in Aberdeen, Washington, to Lawrence Spencer and Lois Heinlen-Spencer. He grew up in Montesano, where he also attended school.
On July 16, 1965, he married his love, Shirley (Jhanson) Spencer. He had 4 children, Larry Dean of Westport, Lawrence Ronald Sr. (Bonni) of Central Park, Rusty (Debra) of Elma, and Jana (John) DeMore of Spring Creek, Nevada. Larry was preceded in death by his parents, Lawrence and Lois; and two sisters, Shirley Ann Spencer and Donna Lee (John) Grove.
Larry was a U.S. Marine, with an Honorable Discharge. He then went on to become a truck driver and a Reserve for the Grays Harbor County Sheriff. He was well known as he worked for many trucking companies both on the Harbor, and in Montana driving truck, and doing heavy duty mechanics. Later in life Larry and Shirley co-managed ABC Mini Storage in Central Park for 17 years. They retired a few weeks ago. Larry was involved in the Grays Harbor Coin Club, and was a former member a CB Club, his CB handle was “Jake-Brake”. He was also a member of Grays Harbor Search and Rescue. He enjoyed Nascar, having been a race car driver, and volunteering at the Grays Harbor Race Track as a push truck driver.
Larry’s biggest joys were his children; his 14 grandchildren (Katherine, Valerie, Trevor, Ryan & Brittany, Misty, Tifanie & Kyle, Michael, Mitchell & Jennifer, Leslie & Matt, Matthew & Felicia, Cody, Dylan, Lawrence Jr., and Jessica & Nate); and 8 great grandchildren (Taylor LeiLani, Rhodee, Taylor, Trenton, Rave, Chase, Maurice, & Caden) and one on the way.
He was an avid hunter, and fisherman, and was actively involved with Friends Landing. Larry was the kind of man who was always putting others first, and who would do anything for anyone. He was the kind of man who could put a smile on your face, and loved making people laugh. His kind heart and joyful spirit will be forever remembered by all that knew him.
There will be a graveside service at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, March 20, 2013, at the Satsop Cemetery.
A celebration of his life will be held following the service at his son’s home in Elma. To honor Larry, the family requests that donations be made to Friends Landing.
