Lillie Mae Runyon

Lillie Mae Runyon, longtime Raymond resident died on Wednesday, February 6, 2013, at her home in Raymond, at the age of 87. Lillie was born on August 7, 1925, in Moose, Washington, to John Westley and Grace Anna (Clements) King.

Lillie married Richard Dale Runyon in South Bend, Wash. on April 7, 1956. He survives her at the family home in Raymond.

Her children were her utmost priority, working nights while they slept so she could be with them during the day. A few favorite past times were Sunday afternoons at her mom and dad’s farm (Grandma and Grandpa King’s), surrounded by family, eating potluck while the children fished in the nearby creek. Lillie enjoyed taking the boys to Husky games in Seattle. She was known to throw the remote control at the TV when the Seahawks weren’t playing well and yelling at the referees for making bad calls. She was recalled yelling “OFF SIDES” and when asked how she came to be so interested in football she replied “With three boys and their dad, I didn’t have much choice.”

Her grandchildren meant everything to her. If anything was needed, a stroller, car seat, anything, she made certain they had it.

She enjoyed the countless hours spent with her sister, Kitty, at her home on Lake Quinault; laughing while telling stories of their time spent together.

She loved watching and feeding “her” deer, who would come right up onto the porch looking for apples. She enjoyed her huge and very old azalea and rhododendron bushes and the carpet of color when the blooms fell to the ground.

In her later years Lillie enjoyed spending long visits with her son Steve, at his home near Crater Lake. She liked to get outside and “grub” in the yard. Family teased her about her efforts to “clean up the forest” and the countless pairs of sunglasses lost in the forest!

Lillie volunteered for the American Heart Association, the American Cancer Society as well as the American Lung Association.

She is survived by her husband, Richard; her daughter, Carolyn Maughan of Portland and granddaughter, Samantha; son, Mike Runyon of Raymond, his wife, Ann, grandchildren, Michael, Mitchell, Rikki and Roslyn; son, Steve Runyon of Oregon and his wife, Copper; son, Rich Runyon of Chehalis, and his wife, Janelle and grandson Aaron; Dave Cernin, who was like a son to Lillie and his wife, Gloria of Oregon; and 6 great-grandchildren. A brother, Darrel King of Raymond and a sister, Grace (Tootsie) of California also survive her. Brothers Aaron, Dee, Roy and Grover and a sister Katherine (Kitty), all preceded her in death. Also preceding her was a young daughter, Sherry Lynn.

Graveside services will be held 1:00 p.m. on Monday, February 11, 2013 at the Fern Hill Cemetery in Menlo. Memorials may be made in Lillie’s memory to the Raymond Fire Department at 212 Commercial Street, Raymond, WA 98577. Arrangements are in care of Stoller’s Mortuary in Raymond.
