Martha (Crites-Yucha) Mollett


On February 27, 2013, Martha Mollett, 92, passed away after a heart attack and a short stay at the Montesano Health & Rehab Center.

Martha was born February 19, 1921, the oldest of seven children to Ray and Dora Crites in Nickalus County, West Virginia. With seven small children the family settled in Grays Harbor.

Martha married Joseph “Joe” Yucha on January 29, 1937. Their home was up Newman Creek Rd. in Elma, Washington. They raised three boys. Jack (Judy) Yucha of McCleary, Lonnie (Esther) Yucha of Aberdeen and Brad (Barb) Yucha of Elma. Joe passed away January 14, 1977. Of Martha’s three boys there are six grandchildren. Cindy, Emilie, Beverly, Ken, Jody and Jon. She is also survived by six great-grandchildren and one great-great-granddaughter. Marth has one surviving brother, Elwin Crites and his wife, Phyllis of Yuma, Arizona. Brother, Oshel Crites passed leaving his wife, Clara of Tumwater, Wash. Brother, Darwin Crites and his wife, Millie passed. Brother, Doug Crites passed in 1986. Sisters, Phern Yakovich and Nelda Kelly also passed in recent years.

There are numerous nieces and nephews of the Crites family. On September 17, 1977, Martha married Harold Mollett in Elma, Wash. She inherited many step-children. Roy (Karol) Mollett of Elma, Donna (Davis) Jennings of Aberdeen, Geraldine (Dick) Bailey of Poulsbo, Rosemary (Keith) Delzer of Idaho, Judy (Richard) Walker of Auburn. Deceased step-children are Chuck, Cliff and Marilyn. There are numerous nephews, nieces, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.

Her jobs included custodial work for WPPS, Bayview Lumber of Elma, Montesano and Cosmopolis. She liked to spend time with her friends at the Thimble Club, going fishing and clam digging with family. Martha worked hard at raising her family and staying involved with her extended family. She gardened and canned her fruits of labor on the old wood cook stove. In later years she loved to travel. Visiting friends and family in West Virginia, Oklahoma and Arizona with husband, Harold, until his death March 19, 1995. She continued snowbird traveling to Arizona until about 2010. In her last few years, a longtime special friend, Chuck Yucha was her caregiver. He was very good to her. When extra care was needed, Leanne, a family friend, stepped in to give a hand. Toward the end, she spent her last days at the Montesano Health and Rehab Center.

The family welcomes you to celebrate her life at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 9, 2013, at Whiteside Family Mortuary in Elma. Interment will be at Satsop Cemetery in Satsop.
