Mary E. Anderson, 58, of Montesano, Washington, passed away on April 22, 2012.
Mary was born on May 28, 1953, in New Haven, Connecticut, to Arthur and Arlene (Cannon) Anderson. Mary attended Montesano High School and graduated with honors and also won the national John Philip Sousa Music Award in 1971. She continued her education attending Evergreen Community College in Olympia, Wash., and was graduated from Cascade Business College in Bellingham, Wash..
Mary worked for DSHS Child Protective Services and was awarded Secretary of The Year for the State of Washington. She later worked for many years co-managing The Mad Hatter Vintage Clothing store in Bellingham, Wash. before moving to Grays Harbor.
Although Mary never had children of her own, as a young girl after the death of her mother, she helped her father raise her brothers and sisters. Later she helped her younger sister, Claudia, raise her two daughters (Shellie Pullar and Charity Jacobsen) and also Shellie’s daughter (Meghan Anderson).
Mary was a talented artist and musician, loved the outdoors and photography, but her greatest achievement and love in life was her family.
She is survived by her sisters, Claudia Anderson of Bellingham and Elaine Anderson of Montesano; brothers, David Anderson and Ted Anderson of Montesano; nieces she helped raise,Shellie Pullar of Montesano and Charity Jacobsen of Bellingham; and very special nieces and great-nieces, Meghan Anderson; Paige, Autumn, and Halle Jacobsen and Jessica Kuzmak; and great-nephew, Logan Jamison. Mary is also survived by her brother, Arthur’s, children, Shellyne, Matthew, Isaac and Zachariah.
Mary was preceded in death by her father and mother; her brother, Arthur Anderson Jr.; and her aunt, Betty Luark.
There will be a service to celebrate her life at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday May 6, 2012, at the Grays Harbor Foursquare Church on Central Park Drive.
