Mary Elizabeth Gardner

Long time resident Mary Elizabeth Gardner passed away at her home on Monday, July 8, 2013. She was born October 12, 1933, in San Francisco to Willie and Virginia (Bennicuff) Goode. Mary grew up in San Francisco and attended Mission High School.

Mary started her cooking career at Fosters Cafeteria in San Francisco. Mary moved to Copalis Crossing in 1980. She was head cook at Peggy’s Pantry and leased it at a later date. Mary also worked for the North Beach School District as a cooks helper aka “The Lunch Lady”. She retired in 2004.

Mary belonged to the Copalis Beach/Ocean City Lions Club; VFW Ladies Auxiliary at Hogan’s Corner and was also a member of Copalis Community Church. Mary enjoyed volunteering at the Copalis Community Food Bank, cooking for the Union Gospel Mission and was also a Lioness at Copalis Beach.

Mary is survived by three sons, Michael Bitterman of Ocean Shores, Jim Bitterman and Bill Ashley of Twin Falls, Idaho; four daughters, Maryann Lane of Salem, Ore., Arla (Bill) Williams of Martinez, Calif., Anita Thomas of Portland, Ore. and Anne Guadagnolo of Ocean Shores; brother, Bill Goode of Copalis Crossing; five sisters, Nancy Vogee of Blaine,Wash., Donna Lang of Lake Havasu City, Ariz., Anna Burgher-Ring (Don) of Copalis Crossing, Emily Dixon of Aberdeen and Karin Marson (Dave) of Stockton, Calif. Mary is preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Rogers; and her infant brother, Willie Keith Goode. Mary also leaves behind nine grandchildren, Corey, Donald, Brandon, Rene, Nicole, Elizabeth, Jennifer, Mike and Cody; great-grandchildren, Olivia, Arie, Serenity, Brandon, Sierra, Dahlia, Rubie and Isaiah. Plus numerous nieces and nephews.

Memorial donations are suggested to Copalis Community Food Bank or PAWS. Inurnment will take place at Tahoma National Cemetery in Kent, Wash. at a later date.
