Matthew Tyler Matlock, (Ty)

Matthew Tyler Matlock, (Ty), a lifetime resident of Raymond, Washington, passed away on March 11, 2013, at the age of 36 after a courageous nine year battle with paralysis resulting from a previous car accident. Ty was born in Aberdeen, Washington on December 24, 1976, to Mike Matlock and Vicki (Triplett) Flemetis. He graduated from the Raymond School District.

Ty worked in several job fields including the fishing industry in Alaska, tire repair and he was working for the Vanson Corporation at the Port of Willapa prior to his injury.

Ty was an accomplished guitarist and cherished playing with various bands throughout the area. Ty most enjoyed playing for various friends and family. Ty also had a strong passion for surfing, especially catching waves in Westport. Ty was a free spirit and once left for Mexico to just hang out, relax and surf for a month. He also enjoyed surfing the waters off of Kona, Hawaii. Ty enjoyed fishing for anything that would bite his hook.

Friends and family were most important to Ty. He was a devoted son, uncle, brother and friend to many. He especially loved his devoted Jack Russell Terrier, Zowee. Ty also enjoyed sponsoring a girl’s softball team appropriately named “Ty’s Angels” and enjoyed the fact that one of his nieces played on the team. Ty often expressed his greatest gratitude to his family regarding the hospital staff at Willapa Harbor Hospital that carefully took care of him over the years. Ty formed lasting friendships with his beloved care givers over the last several years even when they moved on to different career paths. They always kept in touch with each other and remained friends. Ty also expressed his greatest gratitude for the Raymond Fire Department and their medical staff for always responding to assist him or transport him to various emergencies. Ty also was very grateful for Harbors Home Health who assisted him weekly.

Ty most recently talked about his latest trip to the Paramount Theater to watch one of his most favorite bands, “Soundgarden” with his friends and family.

Ty is survived by his mother and step-father, Vicki and Ron Flemetis; his father and father’s girlfriend, Mike Matlock and Toni Glazier; his brothers and sister-in-laws, Pat and Torrie Matlock, Shane and Janel Flemetis, Ron and Shelly Flemetis; two sisters, Jamie and Katie Flemetis; his grandmother, Shirley Triplett; aunts, Jeanne (John) Ledford, Janis (Alex) Cardenas, and Debbie (Skip) Allison; and an uncle, Pat Matlock and an aunt Judy Matlock, both of Tacoma. Ty is also survived by numerous cousins and 13 nieces and nephews whom he loved dearly.

Ty was preceded in death by his grandfathers, Thomas Matlock and Jon Triplett.

Donations in his memory may be made to the Raymond Ambulance Service, Willapa Harbor Helping Hands, or Harbors Home Health.

A celebration of life will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday March 23, 2013, at the Raymond Elks Club.
