Melvin Lee Frank

Melvin Frank died on January 14, 2013 in Quilcene, Washington. Mel was born March 26, 1940, to David and Ella Frank. He was an enrolled member of the Quinault Indian Nation.

Mel was born and raised in Bay Center, Wash. He attended Bay Center Elementary and South Bend High School. Mel was an excellent athlete in football and basketball through his High School career, leading his basketball team to a championship in 1958. Mel furthered his education at both Grays Harbor and Peninsula Colleges where he earned a degree in Fisheries. Mel worked for over 35 years for the National Fish Hatcheries, first in Quilcene and later in Quinault. After retiring Mel resided in Quilcene.

Mel enjoyed fishing, hunting, shrimping, clam digging and crabbing. Mel enjoyed going to watch sporting events, following the Mariners and attending games with his son. He also enjoyed going to and watching his granddaughters sporting events.

Mel is survived by his children, Leon Frank of Bay Center and Connie Frank Rae of Quilcene; his granddaughters. Megan and Samantha Rae; and his sister. Mary Jane Nyland of Bay Center. He was preceded in death by his parents. David and Ella; brothers. Willard, David, and Westley; and his sisters. Esther and Violet.

Visitation will take place from 12:00 to 5:00 p.m. on Friday, January 18, 2013, in the chapel at Harrison Family Mortuary located at 311 W. Market St. in Aberdeen, Wash.

A graveside service is scheduled for 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, January 19th at the Bay Center Cemetery located at Bay Center, Wash. with a potluck reception to follow at the Bay Center Community Center.
