Melvin LeRoy Jones, 74, a resident of Ocean Shores, died at Montesano Health and Rehabilitation Center, on Friday, September 6, 2013. He was born in Hammon, Oklahoma, the son of Houston LeRoy and Dorothy L. (Jones) Jones. The family moved to Raymond, Wash. and Melvin attended Raymond schools.
He served in the Navy and upon his return to the Harbor he went to work as a sheet metal fabricator working in roofing. He worked for Howell Sheet Metal Co. in Aberdeen and Pryde Sheet Metal Co. of Hoquiam. He retired following an injury in 1974.
He married Mary June Reed in Napa, Calif. on April 16, 1966. She survives him at the family home.
Melvin was a member of the Sheet Metal Workers International Association. He enjoyed fishing and traveling.
Besides his wife, Mary June; Melvin is survived by 7 sons, Michael Reed of Aberdeen, Gary (Sonya) Reed of Montesano, Tim Reed of Hoquiam, David (Ann) Reed of Escalon, Calif., Steven (Michelle) Reed of Aberdeen, Shawn (Kristen) Jones of Bellingham and Vincent (Amber) Jones of Montesano; 3 daughters, Genell Reed (Craig) and Malia Bryson, both of Elma and DeAnn Jones (Rich) of Ocean Shores; a sister, Lorena Drahos of Thompson Falls, Mont.; and 36 grandchildren and over 40 great-grandchildren.
At Melvin’s request there will be no formal services.
