January 26, 1932 - June 24, 2013
Our beloved Nancy (mother, sister, wife, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend) passed away peacefully on June 24. We will miss her so much.
She was born in Aberdeen, Washington, the youngest of four children to Fern and Francis Mercier. She graduated from Weatherwax High School in 1950. She attended college at WWU in Bellingham where she met and married Art (Dick) Stewart on June 29, 1952. They moved to Seattle after his stint in the Army and had three children, Laurie, James and Bruce. Nancy was active in the elementary school PTA and was President for a time. The family moved to Bothell in 1969. Nancy worked at fabric stores and eventually managed Pacific Fabrics in Northgate.
After her divorce in 1980, she moved to Edmonds. While there she met Jack Bell. She moved to the beach house in Spee-Bi-Dah, Marysville with Jack. She married him on her birthday in 1993. Soon after moving to Marysville she volunteered at the Marysville Information Center and then joined the Marysville Strawberry Festival. She was with the festival for 23 years and held many positions such as running the Market Place. She spent the last 17 years as Treasurer, keeping a close eye on the finances. She retired from the festival…twice. In June 2011, she and Jack were the Grand Marshals of the Strawberry Festival Parade. They were both so pleased and honored to fill that role. In January of 2012, she lost her beloved husband, Jack T. Bell. We are glad they are together again.
Nancy has been a great sister, a loving mother and wife, a beloved grandmother, a very special great-grandmother and a treasured friend. She is survived by her sisters, Georgia (Mercier) DeBay, Marilyn (Mercier) Sturm and her nieces and nephews; daughter, Laurie (Stewart) and her husband Griffith Stewart, granddaughters, Amy (Williams) and her husband Aaron Evans, and great-grandson, Connor Evans, grandson, Justin Williams and his wife Sally Lee; son, James and his wife Jan Stewart, grandsons, James “Mac” Stewart and Tyler Stewart; son, Bruce and his wife Jean Stewart, granddaughter, Maggie (Stewart) and her husband, Garret Sakura and grandson, Sean Stewart.
