Pastor Ronald I. Whitney


Pastor Ron Whitney of Ocean Shores, age 79, went to be with the Lord Saturday, April 13, 2013. Born in Kingston, Washington, he served in the Air Force during the Korean Conflict.

Ron was an ordained minister since 1957. He attended Northwest College in Kirkland where he met his wife, Wanda.

Ron and Wanda were musical evangelists prior to their first pastorate in Bremerton, Wash. in 1964. They pioneered Christian Worship Center in Camp Union, Wash. in 1988 and twice pastored at Neighborhood Christian Center in Bremerton and retired in 2003. Most recently they did missionary evangelism in South America, Uganda, Malaysia and Singapore. He continued to be active in the ministry by writing, singing and guest speaking. He mentored and encouraged everyone he met. His recent book, “Why I Love the Ministry” is published and available online at Amazon and Barnes and Noble. It contains 37 short stories about God’s intervention. Ron leaves a legacy of kindness, gentleness and loving care to many and will continue to be known as “Pastor Ron.”

He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Wanda; brother, Ted Whitney; and sisters, Gloria Engelbretson, Pat Pouliot and Carol Ritchie and extended family.

A Memorial Service and reception will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, April 27, 2013, at Evergreen Christian Community Church, 1000 Black Lake Blvd SW, Olympia, Wash. Viewing will be held from 3:00-7:00 p.m. on Friday, April 26th at Mills & Mills Funeral Home in Tumwater, and from 12-12:45 at Evergreen Christian Community Church.
