May 31, 1950 - August 4, 2012
Shelley McGeatchy, a long-time Grays Harbor resident, passed away at her mother’s home among loved ones on August 4, 2012. She was 62.
Shelley was born to Richard (Dick) Hovde and Sharon Malinowski Hovde in Aberdeen, Washington, on May 31, 1950. Shelley was the beloved granddaughter of Aberdeen pioneers Joe and Beth Malinowski.
The family moved several times, ultimately resettling in Montesano in 1967, where Shelley attended Montesano High School. In 1969, Shelley moved to Klamath Falls where she met and married her first husband, Jim Gueydan (USAF). They share two sons, Dean James and James Dean.
In 1978, after living in both California and Oregon, Shelley returned to Gray’s Harbor to care for her mother.
Shelley worked at Brumfield Twidwell in Montesano until it closed. There she met and married Dave McGeatchy. They remained married until his death in 1996.
Shelley is survived by her son, James Gueydan; granddaughter, Celeste Gueydan; grandson, Michael Gueydan of Peterborough, New Hampshire; her mother, Sharon Jull of Olympia; her brothers, Eric Hovde of Elma and Richard Hovde of Olympia; her niece, Jodi Dillashaw of Lacey; and nephew, Pete Hovde of Lacey.
Shelley was a laughing, free-spirited, artistic soul who felt most at home in nature.
Friends and family will gather at high noon on Saturday, August 25, 2012, at 101 Sherman St. NW in Olympia, Wash. to lovingly remember her.
