Ralph N. Milam

Ralph N. Milam a Harbor resident for over 40-years, passed away on Monday, September 2, 2013, at Saint Peter’s Hospital in Olympia. He was 97. Ralph was born March 5, 1916, in Greenbrier, Arkansas to Harley and Ora Milam. In addition to Arkansas and Elma, he also lived for a time in Seattle.

Ralph married Olga Milam on December 31, 1983, in Elma. She survives him at the family home. Ralph worked as and retired as a barber of over 40-years. He served in the U.S. Army Air Forces in the Medical Corps during and after World War II. He was a member of the Fraternal Order of the Eagles, the VFW and the American Legion.

Ralph’s belief in the Lord was a large part of his life. He wouldn’t go a day without praying. If he heard on the news of someone in trouble, they would be included in his prayers that night. He was an avid golfer for over 80 years. He loved to tell the story of how, when he was a boy, he caddied once for Al Capone and received a $20 tip! Quite a lot of money for a boy back in those days. Ralph also liked to make yard ornaments and refurbish used golf clubs. He enjoyed fishing and was a Mariners and Seahawks fan.

In addition to his wife, Olga; he is survived by sons, Ted (Sandy) Milam of Stanwood, Wash. and David (Anita) Milam of Arlington, Wash.; stepdaughters, Sharon (Bill) Barker of Shelton, Arvadell (Ace) Duvall, Barbara (Jim) Peek, Paulette (James) Dodgen and Deanna (Blane (deceased) Meister all of Elma.
