Reid Dwayne Murray, Sr., 83, resident of Montesano for the last 15 years and retired US Naval Instructor, died at his home in Montesano, Monday, January 28, 2013.
Reid was born on June 5, 1929, in Tooele, Utah, to Jessie Wilber and Mary Ann Murray. He grew up in Tooele and on March 7, 1953, Reid married Charlotte A. Quimby in Elko, NV. She lives at the family home.
He joined the Navy just prior to the marriage and during his 22 years with the Navy he was stationed on the Midway and was also an Electronics Instructor for the Navy in Memphis, Tenn., and various other locations.
Upon is Honorable Discharge from the Navy he returned to the family home in Tooele until moving to Montesano 15 years ago to be near his daughter.
Reid was a past member of the Tooele Eagles Lodge and he enjoyed working in the garden.
Reid is survived by his wife of 59 years, Charlotte Murray of Montesano; three sons, John Harold and wife, Sheryll of Brisbane, Australia, Reid D. Jr. and wife, Debbie of Stevenson, Calif., and Ricki and wife, Rhonda of Old Hickory, Tenn.; a daughter, Pauline Foster of Montesano; Sixteen grandchildren, John, Vanessa, Bryan, Keith, Jody, Travis, Heather, Josh, Scott, Bobby, Brandon, Jaime, Samantha, James, Shannon and Rachael; many great grandchildren; and great great grandchildren. Reid was preceded in death by a daughter, Georgia L. Terry; two brothers, Glenn and Marion Murray; and a sister, Lucille Fate.
There will be a time of visitation and viewing from 9 am to 2 pm on Tuesday, February 5, 2013, in Fern Hill Funeral Home, Aberdeen.
There will be a funeral service at 2:00 P.M. on Tuesday, February 5, 2013, in Fern Hill Funeral Home’s Chapel with Retired Navy Chaplain Bob Hoem conducting the service.
