Robert Allen (Bob) Krack, a resident of Grays Harbor for over 60-years, passed-away early Tuesday morning, October 22, 2013, at his home in Tumwater. He was 96. Bob was born March 2, 1917, on a farm near Gackle, North Dakota to Henry and Christine (Rechtenbaug) Krack. Bob attended a county school later at Gackle and joined the Citizen’s Conservation Corps at the age of 18 in 1935. The C.C.C. took him to North Dakota, Minnesota and three places in Washington State until his discharge in 1938. He lived in Grandview, Washington from 1938-1942 where he worked as an apple knocker and a butcher. Bob was inducted into the Army of the United States on February 21, 1942 where he served in the Army Medical Corps from 1942-1946. He served in the American and European African and Middle Eastern Theaters with 14 months at the 159th General Hospital in England.
Bob went to work with Simpson Timber Company in 1946 until his retirement in 1980. He is a lifetime member of the Carpenters Union.
He married Evelyn Jensen on June 18, 1948 in Napavine, Wash. and they began their married life in Malone, Wash. Bob & Evelyn moved to Elma in 1957 where they lived until moving to the Olympics West Retirement Inn in Tumwater 7 years ago.
Bob was always a man of the soil. He loved raising things, chickens, livestock etc;.
Bob is survived by his wife of over 65 years, Evelyn of Tumwater; daughter, Elaine (Steve) Bloomfield of Auburn, Wash.; son, Laurence (Cathy) of Buckley, Wash.; son, William (Janet) Krack of Elma, Wash.; and daughter, Diane (Jeff) Greenfield of Shelton, Wash. He also survived by 11 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. Bob is preceded in death by his parents; his baby daughter, Lynn Krack (March 17, 1949); brothers, John, Elmer, Ernest, Alvin and Lester; and a sister, Emma Thum.
Public visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. on Saturday morning, October 26, 2013, at Whiteside Family Mortuary in Elma followed by funeral services at 11:00 a.m., and a graveside committal service at the Masonic Cemetery in Elma.
