Longtime Ocean Shores resident Robert Erwin Sutter passed away at his home on Friday, July 12, 2013. He was 66. Bob was born June 9, 1947, in Puyallup, Washington to Erwin and Anne (Schurph) Sutter.
Bob was raised in Sumner and graduated from Sumner High School in 1965.
In 1967, he enlisted in the U.S. Army and served during the Vietnam War, returning home in 1970.
Bob went on to Western Washington University where he earned a bachelor’s degree in education, graduating in 1973.
On September 18, 1971, Bob married the love of his life Joann Cochran in Puyallup. She survives him at the family home.
Bob worked as a teacher and coach for North Beach School District for 40 years.
He was a parishioner of St. Jerome Catholic Church, a member of the Puyallup Eagles, V.F.W., American Legion and the Swiss Sportsman Club.
He loved coaching, fishing, hunting, and especially being with his family and helping others.
In addition to his loving wife, Joann; he is survived by his daughters, Juli (Erik) Kupka of Central Park and Angi (Rob) Schreiber of Ocean Shores; brother, Jim Sutter and sisters, Judy Parker and Nancy Reynolds all of Puyallup; and four grandchildren, Madi (15), Sophi (9), Maggi (5) and Charli (3).
A vigil service will take place at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday, July 17th at St. Jerome Catholic Church in Ocean Shores. A funeral mass will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Thursday at the North Beach High School gym followed by a reception at the Ocean Shores Elks. There will be a committal service at the graveside at a later date on Lopez Island.
