Roger M. Totten

Roger, 81, passed away on September 18, 2012, in Olympia, Washington. He was born on July 7, 1931, to Gertrude and William Totten in Yakima, Washington. He was a 1951 graduate of Yakima High School. He served with the U.S. Navy during the Korean War, four years active duty and six in the reserves.

Roger married Sharon (Billings) Sangder on January 1, 1977, in Aberdeen, Wash. Professionally he was a manager for Chevron in Yakima and Lamb Grays Harbor in Hoquiam for 15 years before an injury. He then owned and operated a cranberry bog with his wife before moving to Olympia in 1987.

Roger had a big heart and warm smile and never met a stranger. He was an avid fisherman, liked playing cribbage, pinochle and other games, and made lots of wood crafts and fishing lures. He was a past member of the Hoquiam Elks, and belonged to the Hoquiam District 7 Volunteer Fire Department Aid Group.

Roger is survived by his wife, Sharon; sons, Randy (Greta) Sangder of Eugene, Ore. and Mark (Lissy) Sarvela of Utah; daughters, Jody L. Sangder of Olympia, and Teresa A. Mascagno of Santa Barbara, Calif.; nine grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and nine brothers and sisters.

A celebration of life will be held at 12:00 Noon to 4:00 p.m. on Saturday, September 29, 2012, at the family home in Olympia. Memorial donations may be made to the Cancer Society or Providence Sound Homecare and Hospice. Arrangements are with Funeral Alternatives of Washington 360-753-1065.
