Russell Verne Leonard, age 66, a resident of Hoquiam, died on September 11, 2012, at his home in Hoquiam. He was born on May 13, 1946 in Ann Arbor, Michigan, to James R. and Geraldine M. (Savage) Leonard. He was the youngest of four including his twin brother.
Russ was an athlete, winning state championships in baseball and wrestling. While attending Lexington Baptist College, he met his future wife, Marion Rowe. After marrying Marion in 1968, they moved to the state of Washington and started their family.
Russ worked for the school district and a steel mill before starting his own carpentry business. He was a skilled carpenter who could build a house from start to finish. He had a lovely tenor voice and found joy in singing gospel music. He was a self taught saxophonist. His devotion to God led him to form a church in Kentucky and later another one with dear friends in Seattle.
In his last years, he was lovingly cared for by Marion. The family extends their deepest gratitude to caregivers Bonnie, Carolyn and Pam.
Relatives include Marion of the family home in Hoquiam; his three daughters, Jeanette Leonard of Hoquiam, Rochele Anderson of Issaquah and Heidi Bryson of Hoquiam; his three siblings, twin, Ronald, James and Kathy all of Michigan; and five grandchildren.
