Shirley Ione Farrar Bridenback Rakoski died on July 6, 2012, at St. Peter Hospital of pneumonia after a fall in her home. Shirley was born on February 16, 1924, in Elma to Clare Farrar and Leora Mohney Farrar. She also had a stepmother, Marjorie Farrar who married her dad after her mom was deceased.
She was married to Richard Bridenback and after his death to Ted Rakoski who also preceded her in death. She had 3 children, Larry Bridenback of Elma, Pam Bridenback of McCleary and Janet Bridenback Dykstra (Torey) Mielke of Montesano; 4 stepchildren, Connie Rakoski of Ellensburg, Charles Rakoski and Craig Rakoski both of Puyallup and Christine Rakoski Clark of Shelton; 6 stepgrandchildren and 3 stepgreat-grandchildren. She is also survived by her brother, Dwayne Farrar of Elma; and stepsister, Donna Michalak of McCleary. She was preceded in death by her brother, Louis Farrar. She is also survived by many Bridenback, Farrar and Michalak nieces and nephews.
Shirley was a homemaker, restaurant cook and clerk in drug stores throughout her lifetime. She was a founding member of the McCleary VFW Auxilliary and a member of the Elma Eagles. She was also a member of ChatnNibble. She spent her retirement years enjoying lots of friends and playing pinochle and games and she loved doing crossword puzzles. She will be missed by many and will be remembered for enjoying friends and family visits. She has requested no funeral but the family will hold a memorial Potluck at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, September 8, 2012, at the McCleary Community Center.
