Surrounded by his family, Sydney James Merrihew died peacefully at home in Ocean Shores on Tuesday, May 1, 2012. He was 89. Sydney was born on December 21, 1922, in Seattle, Washington, to Sydney and Hazel (Bushnell) Merrihew.
Sydney was raised in Seattle and graduated from Broadway High School in 1940. He had also lived in Auburn before moving to Ocean Shores in September of 2011, after his wife Betty passed away.
He served in in the U.S. Navy during World War II as a tin can sailor. Sydney had worked as a welder at Boeing for 38 years, retiring in 1987. He was an avid reader and enjoyed traveling, camping, and spending time at the gun club.
Sydney is survived by his daughter, Barbara (Boyd) Hosey of Ocean Shores; grandson, Bret (Margaret) Wedding; granddaughter, Jill Evans; two great-grandson, Donovan and Dillon Evans; and a sister, Carol Keeney of Denver, Colo.
