Valerie Jo (Laughlin) Ferguson, age 51, of Atascadero, Calif., passed away at home on Wednesday, October 23, 2013. Valerie was born in Aberdeen, on January 6, 1962, to parents, Owen and Mary Ann Laughlin.
Valerie grew up in the Grays Harbor area, attending high school in Aberdeen, and continuing on to major in church music at Northwest Nazarene College in Nampa, Idaho. She met the love of her life, Dwight Ferguson, while working in Cordova, Alaska. They were married in Aberdeen, on December 29, 1990, settling in Atascadero, Calif., shortly thereafter.
Valerie committed her life to loving and serving God through a personal relationship with Him. She was a loving wife, devoted mother and loyal friend. Valerie had a huge heart for people and was passionate about music and children. She spent many years as a children’s choir director and piano teacher. Her greatest legacy is the love she poured into her husband and children and the joyful reflection of God that remains in the lives of all who knew her.
Valerie was preceded in death by her father, Owen; and three children, Melody, Michael, and Benjamin. She is survived and lovingly remembered by her husband, Dwight; three children, Jessica, Heidi, and Daniel; her mother, Mary Ann; brother, Craig; and many family and friends.
An open memorial service is planned in her honor at 4:00 p.m., Friday, November 1, 2013, at the Atascadero Bible Church in Atascadero, Calif. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made in her memory, through her church, Agape, San Luis Obispo.
