Vernon Jack Goodin

Vernon Goodin was born on December 23, 1923, to Lee and Hazel (Shay) Goodin in Willapa. He passed away on Friday, May 17, 2013, at his home in Raymond. Vern was only two years old when his father was killed in an accident in the lumber mill. When his brother, Raymond, died in an on-the-job accident as a young man, Vern and his brother, Lawrence, were especially close and often worked together, running a gas station and various other small business endeavors.

Vern was a 1941 graduate of Willapa Valley High School. He married Barbara Bridges on April 30, 1949. They had three sons, Lee, Thom, and Fred. Vern co-owned a logging camp in Canada in the late 1950’s and early 1960’s. Through the years he was a logger, longshoreman, and small businessman, at different times owning real estate, restaurants, and a motel.

He especially loved his cats and dogs, always preferring the boxer breed. Vern enjoyed photography, gardening, and traveling, especially to Alaska.

He is survived by his wife, Barbara; three sons; and nine grandchildren.
