William Donald “Don” Lacefield


William Donald “Don” Lacefield, 80 years of age and a lifetime Grass Creek, Washington area resident. died on Saturday, December 1, 2012, at his home following a brief illness. He was born on February 19, 1932, in Aberdeen, Washington, to Willie and Mabel (Wallace) Lacefield.

He spent his entire life in the Grass Creek area, attended the Hoquiam schools and graduated from Hoquiam High School in 1951. He was a member of the US Naval Reserve.

Following his high school graduation he began working at Grays Harbor Paper in Hoquiam and retired from there in 1994.

Don was formerly married to Alvina LaLande and they had five children, Debbie Knorpp, Linda Peterson, Gary Lacefield and Mark Lacefield. His son, Steve Lacefield died in 2008.

Don is survived by his wife, Jane Lacefield of the family home and her children, Tom Brinkly, Carrie Brinkly, Pamela Brinkly and Babette Brinkly. Her daughter, Jody Brinkly, preceded Don in death. Don is also survived by a brother, Howard Lacefield (Carol) and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a brother, Clifford Lacefield and a sister, Betty Southworth.

Don also helped raise a niece, two nephews and many grandchildren. He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. He liked tinkering in his garage, fixing anything and everything. This included automotive equipment of family and friends. He also repaired cranberry equipment, changed tires and supplied gas to strangers in their times of need.

Following his retirement he and his wife, Jane, had driven to most every part of the United States to see its beauty and points of interest.

A celebration of Don’s life with a potluck gathering for family and friends will be from 2:30 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. on Saturday, December 8, 2012, at the Hoquiam Senior Center, 707 Simpson Avenue in Hoquiam.
