Aberdeen streets not only carry us between our homes and everywhere else but are important for efficient transportation, commerce and jobs in our city. If they fall into disrepair, restoring them becomes much more expensive. With money so short, and streets as always requiring maintenance, the City Council has found it important to offer voters the option of a small increase in the sales tax for this purpose. The exact increase, if approved, would be from 8.4 percent to 8.53 percent, 13 cents per $100 spent. The total for streets is expected to bring in is $600,000 a year. This is enough to keep going with an efficient street resurfacing program and avoid longer-term higher costs. Please join me in voting for this measure!
