Five years for Crime Watch program

December marks the five-year anniversary of Hoquiam Police Department’s Crime Watch team. Chief Jeff Myers created this service group to check homes and businesses, help with community events and crowd control, direct traffic and anything else to assist the police officers.

As we’re performing our duties, we sometimes have a little difficulty reading house numbers. One thing we’ve noticed is the lack of clear house numbers. In the event of an emergency, seconds can count. You would be helping emergency personnel get to your home so much faster if your house numbers were large and in contrasting colors to your house paint. A porch light illuminating the numbers in the dark is also good.

If you are going on vacation and would like your home or business checked by Hoquiam Crime Watch, please stop by the police station and fill out a form. Nearly every day of the month we’re out in the Crime Watch PT Cruiser helping make Hoquiam the best place to live.
