Increase in pot use? Not necessarily

The Daily World’s position on I-502 is based on the assumption that pot use will rise if legalized. I find this unlikely. The United States has one of the highest rates of marijuana use in the world yet has some of the most stringent penalties for marijuana. Countries such as the Netherlands and Portugal, where pot is practically legal, have much lower rates of use than the U.S. Portugal experienced a decrease in use after marijuana was decriminalized.

The claim that marijuana use will increase seems to be the main argument against legalization. Show me the evidence to support this claim and I’ll support prohibition.
