It’s the law

There seems to be some confusion as to why the Grays Harbor County Democrats used the process they did to choose three names to present to the County Commissioners. This was done to fill the unexpired term for the partisan office of Grays Harbor County Prosecutor.

This process is outlined in the Washington State Constitution, Article II, Section 15. It’s the law.

The Grays Harbor Democrats followed the proper procedures and chose three names, listed in order of the number of votes received. Senior Deputy Prosecutor Katie Svoboda was placed in the top position, followed by two other qualified Democrats.

This list has been presented to the County Commissioners. Now it is their duty to choose from this list, keeping in mind who the top choice is.

That’s it. It’s just that simple. And because this protocol is stated in Washington’s Constitution, when a time may come for the Republicans to fill an unexpired term for a partisan office, they will do it the same way. Because it’s the law.
