The Hoquiam Elks Grand Parade for Loggers Playday is fast approaching and the committee is working diligently on the lineup and all the other behind the scenes stuff that comes with it. The parade is scheduled for Saturday, Sept. 7, beginning at noon. We will be staging entries on the Hoquiam Industrial Route which includes the 5th Street extension from Adams to Early Industrial Way. The parade will follow 8th Street, turning on K Street and continuing past the grandstand and judging (flat bed trailer at 7th and L) ending at 5th Street.
We are very excited that we have received several floats and marching bands that promise to make this a truly special community event. There will be the traditional band performances in the Hoquiam Elks Lodge following the parade and awards will be announced following these performances.
We hope to see all of the community come together to enjoy this major Hoquiam event and we thank all of those who have participated in helping raise the necessary funds by way of donations and purchasing fundraiser tickets. There are too many to list here but we must say that we appreciate each and every one of you. We have a “Hoquiam Business Fundraiser Basket” with tickets available through the lodge or committee members, for which we will draw the lucky winners on parade day following the parade. The community continues to pull together and it means a lot to so many to be able to put this event on each year.
If you are in town for the day don’t miss all the events scheduled, starting with the Rotary Club pancake breakfast, vendor fair downtown Hoquiam 10-4, parade at noon, Lions Club salmon bake starting at 2, logging show at 6 followed by the fireworks show, and dance to Ready or Not at the Hoquiam Elks Lodge (open to the public) from 9 until 1 a.m.
We extend a big thank you to all the committee members, the show committee support, volunteer judges, Hoquiam businesses, and so many others for their continued support of this event. We hope that we have served the community well in putting this event together and we look forward to continuing this special community event in the future.
