Here we go again, down the slippery slope called charter schools. Once again we are told how this is the answer to the “deteriorating public schools,” when in fact the only thing deteriorating is society. To put it simply, the research, over time, has not shown that charter schools are not anymore successful than public schools, in fact often result in lower achievement levels! The gap between and haves and the have-nots continues to widen and the middle class that built America continues to disappear.
What is needed is a fundamental shift in our society from its competitive dog-eat-dog, materialistic beliefs to one that demonstrates more compassion, decision making and higher-level thinking skills. This must occur with one person at a time, one community at a time, one school at a time and finally one nation. Until we change from our greed-goal philosophy we’ll not survive in an ever increasing global community.
