I am lucky to have worked on the set for the summer youth musical, “Rent,” performed at the Bishop Center for the Performing Arts last weekend. Please disregard my tiny bit of bias — Rent’s opening night was a deeply moving experience! I heard comments such as, “This is the best theater I’ve seen on Grays Harbor in 25 years,” and “I want to come back every night.” Add the usual comment, “We have such amazing talent here, of all places,” and it proves we have a big hit!
“Rent” is an edgy, operatic play. It mirrors the opera, “La Boheme,” set in present-day New York City. Rent explores modern adult issues in a human, intelligent way. The music was beautiful, the young singers and actors did it proud, and the pit band was great. Rent was just outstanding!
