LACEY — Aberdeen’s hitting never got untracked in its season baseball opener.
Timberline pushed across a run in the bottom of the seventh inning to nip the Bobcats, 3-2, in a non-league contest Monday night at the rainy RAC complex.
Limited to one hit, the Bobcats were unable to capitalize on Charlie Dietrich’s stellar pitching performance. The senior right-hander allowed only four hits and walked just two.
“Charlie threw the heck out of it,” AHS coach Shon Schreiber said.
The lone walk Dietrich issued came to the leadoff batter in the seventh. A swinging bunt advanced the runner, who scored the winning marker on a looping single to right-center.
Devin Daniels mustered the lone Bobcat hit with a leadoff single in the sixth inning. Two walks and a wild pitch scored Daniels, while Ashton Williamson produced the other AHS run with an infield out.
The Bobcats had some other baserunners but were unable to put the game in motion.
“A lack of offense was what happened,” Schreiber said. “(We were) trying to get something going and we shot ourselves in the foot. The good thing is that everything we didn’t do is fixable.”
Timberline also won the JV contest, 7-2.
Weather permitting, the Bobcats are scheduled to begin Evergreen 2A Conference with a home-and-home series against perennial power Chehalis. Today’s game is slated for Pioneer Park, with Wednesday’s contest at Chehalis.
