BREMERTON — Grays Harbor College dropped a pair of matches in a non-league volleyball double dual against Olympic College and New Hope Christian on Saturday at Bremerton.
New Hope outlasted the Chokers, 25-22, 25-17, 23-25, 28-30, 15-9. Olympic, the NWAACC’s second-ranked team, beat GHC, 25-15, 25-15, 25-23.
Grays Harbor coach Christine Nelson believed her club (8-13) played well in both matches.
“The whole we are stressing is to get better and we are better,” Nelson said. “It’s not translating to wins, but I don’t think we’re playing horribly.”
Tiffani Dhooghe had 14 kills, Heather Dublanko 12 and Kendra Weiler 11 kills for the Chokers in their marathon loss to New Hope. Alahna Weber was credited with 37 assists and 12 digs, while Kendell Kelnhofer brought up 17 digs.
Weber, cited for fine performances in both matches, came up with seven kills and five assists against Olympic. Courtney Hagain delivered eight assists, while Mallory Maneman and Paulette Robles were cited for fine play.
“We did not play poorly in that game,” Nelson stressed. “They have a lot of firepower.”
The Chokers return to Western Division play at home Wednesday against Centralia.
