Host Longview tops Grays Harbor in state Babe Ruth 13s tourney

LONGVIEW — At Roy Morse Park in Longview, Grays Harbor fell in its second pool-play game, a 13-7 defeat to host Longview, in the Southern Washington Babe Ruth 13-year-old baseball tournament on Thursday.

Today, Grays Harbor (1-1 in pool play) will try to punch its ticket into Saturday’s single-elimination bracket play against Mount St. Helens (0-2) at 3 p.m.

A nine-run fourth inning for Longview, aided by several Grays Harbor errors, decided the contest.

“That one inning, even during the district tournament, when we give up too many runs have hurt us,” Grays Harbor manager Gary Gallinger said. “When you give a team 6-7 outs in an inning, you have a hard time getting out of it. It was tough. Other than that inning, it was a good game.”

Jake Metke led Grays Harbor with four hits, including two doubles and a triple, and three RBI.
