OLYMPIA — Aberdeen senior Poli Baltazar navigated the multi-faceted Deschutes River Ranch course with more ease than in previous runs to claim the boys race title at the Evergreen 2A cross country meet in Olympia on Wednesday.
The Aberdeen boys, led by Balataza, finished fourth in the meet. Baltazar and Frank Book, who finished ninth, earned all-league honors.
Baltazar, who won his first race at Deschutes, which features grass, logs, gravel and other surfaces on the 5-kilometer course, ran by himself on Wednesday and finished 46 seconds ahead of the field to win at 15:35.
“We had some struggles, but that’s the race to have struggles in,” AHS head coach Sherrie Green said. “Poli ran a great race. He continues to improve his time as we get toward the end of the season.”
Chehalis won the league title in the boys meet, while Capital demolished the field to win the girls meet title.
All of the day’s runners will move on to the District IV 2A meet on Oct. 27 at The Evergreen State College in Olympia.
