Aberdeen’s Bowley breaks 2 records at district meet

LONGVIEW — Aberdeen’s Joseph Bowley broke two records in Friday’s preliminaries for the District IV Class 2A Boys Swimming Championships at Mark Morris High School in Longview.

Bowley snapped school and meet records in the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 1:01.58. He also led qualifiers in the 200 individual medley with a personal-best time of 2:06.53.

Teammate Colton Sundstrom was the top qualifier in the 200 freestyle (1:53.26) and 100 free (a personal-best time of 49.81).

The finals are scheduled for this afternoon. Preliminaries were not contested in the relays.

The Bobcats had mixed success in Friday’s prelims. Several swimmers established personal bests, but the Cats also had three swimmers disqualified.

“We had a number of kids get improvements and some not and we’re in a position where we have to have amazing swims to win district,” Aberdeen coach Keith Lile said in reference to the team competition. “So our task is not easy, but what fun would it be if it were.”

Roman Langley was cited for a 25-second time drop in the 500-yard freestyle.
