OLYMPIA — Utilizing depth in its second and third swimming entries, Aberdeen overcame the lack of wins in events to pick up third place at the South Sound Relays boys swimming meet on Saturday at The Evergreen State College.
The Bobcats scored 268 points for third in the six-team all-relay meet. Co-host Olympia won the meet with 478 points and North Thurston took second at 403.
The best result for the Bobcats came in the 200-yard freestyle relay. The team of Seth Caba, Dillon Rowe, Colton Sundstrom and Keegan Shippey took second overall at 1:38.84.
One junior varsity team — Michael Lang, Roman Langley, Omar Martinez and Kyle Brewer — won an event, finished at 4:21.62 in the 400 free relay.
“We had time improvements from everyone, top to bottom,” AHS head coach Keith Lile said. “We finished third because of our depth in the second and third swimming groups. They all put in great efforts. We’re happy with that, but we also know we have a lot of work to do before districts.”
Aberdeen was without state qualifier Joseph Bowley, who was out due to illness.
On Thursday, Aberdeen hits the road to take on Capital in a non-league dual meet.
