LACEY — Reversing fields due to weather turned into a nice afternoon on the artificial turf for Aberdeen softball on Monday.
As the host team, even though the contest was played at the Recreation Athletic Complex in Lacey, the Bobcats mercy ruled this Evergreen 2A softball contest with Black Hills with nine runs in the bottom of the fifth inning for a 12-2 win.
Monday’s contest is the start of a five-day, six-game stretch for the Bobcats — host Tumwater today; at Centralia on Wednesday; host Centralia on Thursday and host North Thurston in a doubleheader on Friday. All of the game will be weather determined.
“I’m very happy with today; we just need to take care of the games we can take care of and the others go as they go,” AHS head coach Bill Tometich said. “The most impressive about today’s game was that 10 (of the team’s 14) hits came from our top-four batters (Alexxi Timmons, Holly Entus, Hannah Tometich and Mo Donovan).”
In the bottom of the fifth, five of the nine hits by Aberdeen drove in runs — a two-run triple by Timmons, a two-run single by Ku’ulei Siolo, an RBI triple by Entus and RBI singles by Donovan and Tometich. Tometich ended the contest with an RBI single and was one of two players (along with Entus) to have two hits in the inning.
Donovan finished with the win in the circle, striking out seven and walking three.
