WASHOUGAL — Aberdeen will have a three-athlete contingent competing in next week’s state 2A track & field meet in Tacoma and all three of them will have district titles to their names.
The Bobcats’ Poli Baltazar, Brock Struthers and Shayna Wilson each won one individual event during Friday night’s District IV 2A track & field meet at Fishback Stadium in Washougal.
Baltazar is the only runner moving on for the Bobcats, winning his signature event, the 3,200m run, by 13 seconds in a staidum record 9:19.74. Baltazar finished third overall in the event at last year’s state meet.
Struthers and Wilson each won their respective gender’s javelin event. Struthers outpaced the field by 10 feet with a preliminary throw of 167-7 that held up to the end. Wilson also won on her preliminary throw, reset the school record and beat the field by just under 15 feet at 133-0.
“Those are our district champs and we’re really happy with the way they performed,” AHS head coach Sherrie Green said. “Shayna got a PR and a school record and Poli also had a season PR and a track record.”
